A Child will Lead Them
A few years ago, I entered my son Zack’s home never expecting to hear what was about to be revealed. After a few brief pleasantries, Zack informed me that his 7-year-old son, Isaiah, wanted to share something with me, privately. I was led to Isaiah’s bedroom. Zack left, closing the door behind him.
“What’s up?” I asked inquisitively.
Thoughtfully, but with a bit of trepidation, Isaiah began to unravel a recent personal story. I stood spellbound as he shared in a low quiet voice.
“My mom took me to Balboa Park, where we met a group of other moms gathering for a Bible study. We read together from the Bible about forgiveness. The leader encouraged us to think about someone who had hurt us recently. As I thought, I remembered the two boys who said mean things to me at school this week. Then she asked us to pick up a smooth black rock for each person we needed to forgive. I picked two from her bucket. We followed her to the Rose Garden, where we spent time with God telling Him about our painful experience. Then we were supposed to leave our rock at the place in the garden where we forgave the people who hurt us.
I spent time sharing my story and my hurt feelings with God, while I walked in the garden. Then I forgave the two boys who were mean to me and dropped my two rocks in that spot. When I was done, I sat down on a bench to wait for my mom. She was still praying.
Straight ahead of me I noticed a tree, which I stared at for a while. The leaves were mostly green. But some of them were brown and dry. As I watched, two of the brown ugly leaves fell to the ground at the same time.
Then I heard God say, “You are a lot like this tree that just let go of two withered leaves. The tree didn’t need them anymore. You let go of the hurt feelings you were holding in your heart.”
Up to this point, I had been listening silently and respectfully, but my curiosity was piqued, so I asked, “How did God speak to you? Did you actually hear His voice? Did He speak out loud?”
“No, I just knew what He was saying. I knew it inside.” He answered simply.
I understood what he meant. I had experienced that same “inner knowing”.
“That’s AWESOME!”, I responded smiling and thinking, “…and a little child shall lead them.” (Isaiah 11:6b, ESV)
I was overjoyed and honored that Isaiah had wanted to share such a personal story with me. God had spoken to this seven-year-old little boy in a clear, precise way, that had made an unforgettable connection between God and him. There was absolutely no doubt in his mind or in mine, that it truly was God’s voice that had spoken personally with him.
I put both arms around Isaiah, giving him a warm hug and thanking him for the gift of this very beautiful, intimate story of connection with his Heavenly Father.
How kind and compassionate is our God! - I thought.
Do you long for a more intimate relationship with Him? Are there times when you’d like to hear Jesus speaking to you more clearly?
What do you most desire from God these days?
Do you desire:
the answers to your deepest questions
freedom from painful childhood memories
spiritual growth
emotional healing
a greater awareness of His love for you
an ability do recognize God’s voice
My prayer for you is that you will choose to read through the pages of this book: The Heart of the Journey. You may discover your personal pathway toward the fulfillment of your greatest desires.
Subsequent classes all reflected similar results, as we continued to fine-tune the curriculum, as well as our teaching approach. My husband and I, along with our supportive team, taught Heart of the Journey for the next ten years. We walked alongside those who wanted a more interactive relationship with God, encouraging and equipping them to enjoy a fuller, freer life of intimacy with Jesus.
This very effective class has now become a book. The Heart of the Journey book and workbook will hopefully make its way into the hands and hearts of those ready for an exciting adventure toward spiritual wholeness, healing, and maturity.
